Keep Politisite Alive

Politisite (Part of Iron Mill News) was a pioneer in internet political news gathering and dissemination.  Politisite came live in  early 1998 and become one of the first internet only news sources to cover local, state, and national political campaigns, debates and elections.  Before there were the terms Blog, Blogger, New Media, or Crowd-sourcing,  Politisite was developing what has become the standard in political news coverage.  The Name ‘Politisite” simply means Political Website.

Today, Politisite has some 13 writers and is read in 146 countries.  But times have gotten tough.  Where we always believed we were a Mom and Pop shop declining outside investment and candidate support we have seen large companies grow up all around us.  While we think we have the best ‘hamburgers,’ but ‘Burger King’ and ‘McDonald’s have built stores on our street.  The market has become saturated and we now find the need to reach out to our readers for support.

You may have noticed that we have ads on our site that are served by Google Adsense.  These ads at one time paid the bills, but no longer.

As of today, we are removing all ads served by Google Adsense and have decided to become fully donor supported. This is where you come in.  To put it bluntly, Politisite costs money to the tune of $3000 per month to pay the bills for our servers and staff.  As it stands right now many of our staff have worked free over the last six months.  They have stayed on, hoping the situation would improve.  They are dedicated and provide a great service to our readers. But we can longer allow them to work in this condition.

We are asking that you, as our readers, to fund Politisite to keep us on the internet.  We need to raise $36,000 to keep Politisite up and running.

We also have decided to provide some donor incentives.  Here is how it works.  Those who donate $25 will get a Text ad to whatever business, website or cause they choose. Donate $100 and you will get a 300×250 Banner ad for 1 week and for those who can donate $1000, a 3 month 300×250 ad is available.  You may become a full funding partner for $10,000 and receive an ad for 1 year. If you are a conservative candidate running for office, this may be some of the most reasonable ways to get your message out to voters.  You here that candidates?  Are you listening PR Folks?  Business that want to reach a conservative readership with college education, making over $100K per year, between the ages  of 25-54 can do so as well. If you can’t afford any of these incentive levels, please donate whatever you can.  Even $1 or $5 can help us toward our budget goal.

If you have a favorite writer, you can earmark your contribution to that individual.  Simply place the writers name in the note area.

Here is the bottom line, after 16 years on the internet we must raise these funds or Politisite will simply cease operations on July 1 2014.

Politisite Projection – Virginia Governor Race Too Close to Call

Politisite Political Projections takes in to consideration many factors when utilizing a particular poll for our model.

politisite4We weigh polls differently based on their previous general election accuracy.

We toss polls that have a Margin of Error (MoE) that exceeds +/-5%.

We further take in to consideration the pollsters assumptions of the makeup of the electorate by considering the average PVI for the State polled.

Next we look at momentum of each of the candidates.  This is similar to momentum investing in stocks.   We look at the polling data and assign a momentum figure based on statistics that suggest whether a candidate has a positive, negative, or neutral momentum that could translate into a higher percentage outcome on Election Day.  This is the reason we call our model a “projection” rather than “prediction.”  One could argue for either word.

While Nate Silver at FiveThrityEight says he adds a “secret sauce” to come up with his predictions for election outcomes, we too have that additional secret something.  Since we are located in the South, we will equate our “special formulations” to the secret formula in Cocoa Cola.

In the Virginia Gubernatorial race to be held on November 5th, 2013 we  See normal upward momentum for both the  Democrat Terry McAuliffe and Republican Ken Cuccinelli as voters more from undecided to making a final decision before the election.  The Libertarian candidate Robert Sarvis has some downward pressure as voters realize that although they are unhappy with the current state of a two party system, have come to the realization that a vote for the Libertarian candidate will ultimately put a Democrat in the Governors Mansion.

Based on pure poll aggregation and weighting, Democrat Terry McAuliffe would win by a seven (7) point margin with 48.7% of the vote.  But by judging past Libertarian voting behavior in Virginia, we think that the 9.2% current polling for Sarvis is overstated.

Based on our careful analysis the Politisite Political Projection is as Follows:
