Wheldon wins the 100th Indianapolis 500

INDIANAPOLIS – Dan Wheldon won the Indy 500 on Sunday, taking the lead when rookie J.R. Hildebrand wrecked in Turn 4 of the final lap.

IndyCar’s controversial decision to go to double-file restarts at the Indy 500 claimed its first victim when E.J. Viso was knocked out of the race after bumping into two other cars.

Indianapolis 500 – fantastic finish

INDIANAPOLIS – In one of the most dramatic finishes in Indianapolis 500 history, rookie JR Hildebrand crashed in the final turn of the race and allowed Dan Wheldon to win second race.

Graham Rahal was third, Tony Kanaan fourth and Oriol Servia fifth.

Rounding out the top 10 were Scott Dixon, Bertrand Baquette, Tomas Scheckter, Marco Andretti and Danica Patrick.

Wheldon’s first win came in 2005.
